CLEVELAND — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching Lake Erie for a missing boy, who went missing Friday evening.
The name and hometown of the boy are not being released and there is no Coast Guard imagery available.
At about 9 p.m., Friday, Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, N.Y., received a report of a missing 13-year-old boy who was last seen swimming in Lake Erie near Saybrook Park, Ohio. It was reported to Sector Buffalo, that the boy had been swimming with others in the area and wasn’t noticed to be missing until they got out of the water.
Searching are: boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Ashtabula, Ohio, aboard a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement and a 25-foot Response Boat-Small; aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter; an aircrew aboard a C-130 Hercules fixed wing aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.; an aircrew aboard an Ohio State Police helicopter; the Ohio Department of Natural Resources; the Saybrook fire department dive team; and other multiple local police and fire departments.
“The Coast Guard has been searching throughout the night with multiple different assets,” said Petty Officer 1st Class James Coppola, a search-and-rescue controller at the Coast Guard 9th District command center in Cleveland. “We plan to continue searching in conjunction with partner agencies with the hope of a successful outcome.”
