NEW YORK – Coast Guard Station East Moriches responded to a recreational vessel in distress in Moriches Bay, N.Y., Thursday night.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center in New Haven, Conn., received a report from a commercial salvage company that a 16-foot pleasure craft with one person on board was lost due to the fog and requested assistance.
The Coast Guard established communications with the vessel and advised the owner, to remain in his current location and anchor until the Coast Guard could provide assistance. Additionally, watchstanders maintained a 30-minute communications schedule with the boater until a rescue boatcrew from Station East Moriches arrived on scene.
