PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Rescue crews from the Coast Guard, Navy and local agencies are responding to a tractor-trailer accident on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Thursday.
An on-scene witness contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads command center personnel at approximately 10 a.m., reporting a truck traveling northbound on the bridge-tunnel drove over the side near mile marker 15.
Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders dispatched crews aboard a 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Coast Guard Station Little Creek and diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Beluga, an 87-foot patrol boat to assist.
A Navy SH-60 Seahawk conducting training operations in the area was also diverted to assist.
Personnel from Virginia Beach Fire Department and the CBBT Transit Authority are also assisting.
