Cortez, Fla. — Four men were rescued from the water after their 28-foot boat capsized Sunday 20 nautical miles west of Anna Maria Island, Florida.

A person aboard the boat contacted Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Florida via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting his boat was taking on water with four people aboard and everyone had a life jacket. After Sector St. Petersburg was notified, watchstanders lost communication with the man and issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast.

A 45-foot Response Boat — Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Cortez, Florida, and an MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, were launched to search.

Upon arriving on scene, the RBM crew located the capsized boat with four people clinging to the hull. The four men were safely recovered from the water and transported ashore with no reported injuries.
