Coast Guard rescues distressed New York boater

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard responded to a recreational boater in distress near Sandy Hook, N.J., Wednesday.

At approximately 10:47 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York command center in Staten Island, N.Y., received a report that a 21-foot recreational vessel with one person aboard was taking on water near the point of Sandy Hook, N.J.

A rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook arrived on scene at approximately 10:58 a.m.

The rescue boatcrew’s rescue and assistance team determined the vessel was sinking and safely transported the boater aboard the rescue boat.

The boatcrew transported the boater to Atlantic Highlands Marina, N.J., where he made plans to salvage his vessel.
