U.S. Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook crews, who evacuated prior to the impact of Hurricane Sandy, conducted a damage assessment on the housing, station buildings, and boat piers in an effort to begin clean up operations after the storm. Crewmembers removed hazardous debris, stabilized structures, and cleared damaged equipment from the buildings during the operation.

“I always see destruction on the news and want to respond, but I never thought I’d be the response,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Emilio Sanchez, who helped remove soaked carpet from the station buildings.
