NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing canoer along the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge, Monday.

Missing is, Kevin “Rooster” Guy, last seen wearing a T-shirt and jeans and having a “mullet” type hair style. Guy was reported to have been working at a concert in East Baton Rouge and was last seen by one of the band members at around 11:30 p.m., Friday.  He told the band member that he was going to ride his bike back to his canoe, which was docked along the Mississippi River and go back to his home in Port Allen, traveling by canoe with a bicycle on board.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans directed the launched of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge small boat to search for Guy.

The helicopter searched 180 miles of the river starting at Port Allen Locks and moving south along the river bends, and the response boatcrew searched 22 miles of the river in and around the Baton Rouge area.  Neither the helicopter nor the small boat saw a canoe or an individual that matched Guy’s description.

If anyone has any information regarding Mr. Guy’s condition or location, please contact Sector New Orleans at 504-365-2200.
