CLEVELAND – The Coast Guard rescued two people and assisted another after they fell off of their personal water crafts near Sterling State Park in Monroe, Michigan, Wednesday afternoon.
The Coast Guard is not releasing the names or hometowns of the rescued individuals, and there is no Coast Guard imagery for this case.
At 2 p.m., a search-and-rescue controller at Coast Guard Sector Detroit received a phone call from one of the individuals who was able to get back onto a jet ski, reporting that his two friends were unable to get back onto theirs and that they had become exhausted in trying to do so. All three people were wearing life jackets.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Toledo, Ohio, launched aboard a 25-foot response boat, arrived on scene, located the two teens and rescued them.
The rescue boat crew also brought the reporting source aboard the response boat and towed both personal water crafts to the River Front Marina in the River Raisin.
There were no injuries reported.
The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to remain vigilant while on the water by being aware of your surroundings, including the weather conditions. Wear your life jackets at all times and be prepared for emergency situations by having signaling and working communication devices on board.
