SAN FRANCISCO – Coast Guard and local agencies rescued seven people after their 25-foot pleasure craft overturned in Tomales Bay near Bodega Bay, Calif., Sunday.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s office contacted Coast Guard Station Bodega Bay at 1:30 p.m., who in turn contacted watchstanders at the Sector San Francisco command center and notified them of the capsized vessel.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Henry 1 helicopter crew rescued five of the people from the water. The additional two people were trapped under the vessel which was towed to Lawson’s Landing by Pt. Reyes National Seashore Rescue Boat 29. Rescue swimmers from Air Station San Francisco and Henry 1 kept in contact with the two remaining trapped individuals during the tow. Marin County Fire Department personnel then rescued them after arriving at a pier at Lawson’s Landing.
Two Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Life Boat crews from Station Bodega Bay, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station San Francisco, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s land units and the Henry 1 helicopter crew, Pt. Reyes National Seashore Rescue Boat 29, the National Park Services Dive Team and personnel from the Marin County Fire Department were involved in the rescue.
Local emergency medical technicians are evaluating the seven people on scene.
