ST. PETERSBURG — A man suffering a medical emergency aboard a fishing vessel was rescued by the Coast Guard 140 miles west of Sanibel Island, Florida, Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Florida, watchstanders were notified at approximately 11:34 a.m.of a 32-year old man in need of emergency medical assistance aboard the fishing vessel Rachel J. Bell. After consulting a Coast Guard flight surgeon, a medevac was recommended.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter was launched, hoisted the man, and transported him in stable condition to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
