NEW YORK – The Coast Guard responded to a distressed 26-foot pleasure craft taking on water near Fire Island, New York, today.
Watchstanders at Sector Long Island Sound received a distress call from a vessel near Fire Island Inlet stating that their vessel was taking on water.
Sector Long Island Sound issued an urgent marine information broadcast (UMIB) and launched a rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Fire Island.
Once on scene, the rescue boatcrew began to dewater and escort the vessel to the Captree Boat Basin.
A commercial salvage company arrived on scene and took over the dewatering efforts. The commercial salvage company then escorted the vessel to Oakdale, New York.
