FORT MYERS, Fla. — Seven people were rescued from the water after the 18-foot pontoon boat they were aboard began taking on water near Picnic Island, Florida, Sunday.
A 45-foot Response Boat — Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach was flagged down by two people aboard the pontoon boat at approximately 4:50 p.m. After approaching the vessel, the RBM crew found two people still aboard the submerged vessel and seven people in the water.
The RBM crew safety removed all seven people from the water, transferred the nine people to the RBM and took the vessel in tow.
They dewatered the vessel, and with the help of SeaTow, safety moored the vessel in Punta Rasa, Florida, with no medical concerns.
