ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard and local partner agencies responded to a single-seat aircraft that reportedly crashed less than one mile from Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg, Sunday.
A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office dive team recovered one individual deceased. The name of the individual is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
At 3 p.m., Coast Guard Sector watchstanders witnessed a single-seat airplane crash near the sector from the airport.
Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Fire and Rescue, St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Eckerd College Search and Rescue arrived on scene to assist.
