Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, part of Sector Columbia River, was established on Aug. 14, 1964, at Tongue Point Naval Station with a crew of 22 officers and 104 enlisted men. Two single-engine Sikorsky HH-52 Seaguard helicopters were operated from that location. Today they maintain three MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters with at least one Jayhawk, flight crew and rescue swimmer ready to respond at all times.
