CLEVELAND – The Coast Guard rescued two people from Lake Erie after their 17-foot boat sank about 500 yards from the Coast Guard Station in Marblehead.
The Coast Guard is not releasing the names of the people rescued, and there is no Coast Guard imagery for this case.
At 12:45 p.m., a Coast Guard boat crew, from Station Marblehead, Ohio, was preparing to get underway for a patrol when they witnessed a boat sink 500 yards from the station. They also witnessed two people with life jackets on enter the water. Waves at the time were reported to be 3-4 feet.
The boat crew immediately got underway aboard a 45-foot response boat and rescued the two people. Both people were transported to Station Marblehead. Neither needed medical attention.
The owners of the capsized boat contacted a commercial salvage company to salvage the boat. No signs of pollution were reported.
