SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard Sector San Diego aircrew medically evacuated a man experiencing symptoms of a possible heart attack aboard a cruise ship nearly 40 miles off the coast of Point Loma, Sunday.
The captain of the Carnival Inspiration contacted the Coast Guard around 6 p.m., requesting a medevac for the 78-year-old man.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego and flew to the cruise ship’s location.
Once on scene, the aircrew hoisted the man and a nurse into the aircraft and transported him to Sector San Diego.
The man was transferred to emergency medical personnel at approximately 8:15 p.m.
