SAN FRANCISCO -- A Coast Guard boatcrew and the Southern Marin Fire Department medevaced a sailor aboard a tank vessel approximately eight miles west of San Francisco Monday morning.
At approximately 8 a.m., members from the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Command Center received a request for medical assistance for a 52-year-old man suffering from chest pains aboard the Overseas Boston, a 577-foot U.S.-flagged tanker ship.
After evaluating the man's condition and weather conditions on scene, Coast Guard Station Golden Gate launched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat boatcrew with two paramedics from the Southern Marin Fire Department aboard.
"We greatly appreciate the partnership with Southern Marin Fire Department," said Capt. Greg Stump, commander, Sector San Francisco. "Their rapid response allowed us to administer the highest level of care possible for the individual on the Overseas Boston."
Once on scene, the patient was transferred from the Overseas Boston to Station Golden Gate's motor lifeboat and then transported to emergency medical services in Sausalito.
"Because of the great communication and coordination between the vessel Overseas Boston and our boatcrew, we were able to successfully complete the transfer through the rough sea conditions," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Emily Leon, a boatswain's mate at Station Golden Gate.
