NEW YORK – The Coast Guard ended their search for a boater who was reported overdue after he was located at approximately 2 P.M. today and confirmed safely ashore.

Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) Sturgeon Bay and CGC Wire, Coast Guard Sector New York, Sector Northern New England, and Sector Buffalo searched for Ken Allen, 41, for approximately nine hours today after a friend notified Sector New York that his friend was supposed to arrive in Staten Island, N.Y., yesterday.

The Coast Guard urges all boaters to file a float plan before embarking on any journey. Information should be left with a family member or friend who is staying on shore and should include how many people are aboard your vessel, where you are leaving from and returning to, how long you will be out, and a description of your boat. A float plan can make the difference in rescue and response time in the event of an emergency.
