Coast Guard medevacs 58-year-old man from Nantucket

BOSTON — Coast Guard rescue crews from Air Station Cape Cod medically evacuated a 58-year-old man from Nantucket Cottage Hospital Friday. 

Watchstanders at the 1st District Command Center in Boston, Massachusetts received a call at 9:35 a.m. from Nantucket Cottage Hospital requesting assistance to transport a man with spontaneous head bleeding. 

A rescue crew, using an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, immediately launched to evacuate the man. After arriving at the hospital at 10:25 a.m., he was safely transferred into the helicopter and flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment. 

"This man needed quick medical attention, and in coordination with Boston Med Flight we did so as fast as possible," said Pat Petrarca, the command duty officer at the 1st Coast Guard District Command Center. 

The  1st Coast Guard District, in an average year, will save 350 lives and assist more than 3,000.
