Media Advisory: Coast Guard to host ceremony/open house for anniversary of lost boat crew during 1978 blizzard

BOSTON — The Coast Guard Station Gloucester will hold a memorial ceremony honoring the crew of the pilot boat Can Do who lost their lives during the Blizzard of 1978.  Their vessel sank during an attempt to assist the Coast Guard rescue the crew of the tanker vessel GLOBAL HOPE who had grounded on the shoals in Salem Sound

Who: U.S. Coast Gaurd Station Gloucester, Mass. 

What: A memorial ceremony honoring the crew of the pilot boat Can Do who lost their lives during the Blizzard of 1978.  Their vessel sank during an attempt to assist the Coast Guard rescue the crew of the tanker vessel GLOBAL HOPE who had grounded on the shoals in Salem Sound. The ceremony is open to the public and will have a small reception following.
