HOUSTON — A 63-year-old man was medevaced from an oil rig approximately 40 miles southeast of Port O'Connor, Texas, in the Gulf of Mexico, after he began experiencing chest pains, Tuesday.

A shoreside contact for the rig contacted watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston command center and reported that a crewmember aboard the rig was experiencing chest pains.

The Coast Guard launched an aircrew from Air Station Houston aboard an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter to provide assistance, while an aircrew from Air Station Corpus Christi was launched aboard an HU-25 Falcon jet to provide oversight of the operation.

After landing on the rig, the aircrew brought the man aboard and transported him to Matagorda Regional Medical Center for medical attention.
