CAPE MAY, N.J. – The Coast Guard’s largest ambulatory care facility will be transferred under the command of the Coast Guard’s only enlisted basic training center Sunday.
Coast Guard Health, Safety and Work-life (HSWL) Regional Practice Cape May will transfer its command oversight from Coast Guard Service Center in Norfolk, Va., to Training Center Cape May where it previously resided as part of an organizational realignment. HSWL will be fully integrated as one of four divisions comprising the training center staff.
The unit is being transferred to the training center to provide more efficient administrative and logistic support to the clinic, which processes an average of more than 3,000 recruits per year. The medical staff at the clinic also sees more than 55,000 active duty and reserve military patients and fills more than 35,000 prescriptions each year.
“The transfer of the Health, Safety and Work-life Regional Practice to Training Center Cape May will help improve the patient care and personnel support by easing administrative and logistic burdens for the medical staff,” said Capt. Bill Kelly, commanding officer of Training Center Cape May.
The clinic consists of more than 100 medical and support staff including Coast Guardsmen, Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and civilian and contract employees. HSWL is located in the Samuel J. Call Health Services Center aboard Training Center Cape May.
