BOSTON — Coast Guard rescue crews from Station Portsmouth Harbor, N.H., escorted the fishing vessel Tontne back to port after a 42-year-old man on board was complaining of sea sickness and convulsions near Jefferies Ledge, N.H., Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England in Portland, Maine, received notification from the fishing vessel at 10:27 a.m. and launched a Station Portsmouth Harbor rescue boat.
The 47-foot Motor Life Boat escorted the vessel back to port in Rye, N.H.
The crew of the Tontne transferred the man to awaiting local EMS. He was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire.
"We launched our [boat] to make sure we had a presence on scene," said Paul Painter, the operational search and rescue unit controller at Sector Northern New England. "Our crews made sure that they were ready in case anything happened to the vessel that would prevent it from getting to harbor safely."
