ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. ─ The Coast Guard rescued a boater at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday after his 15-foot sailing vessel overturned near the entrance of Delaware Bay.
A pilot in an aircraft flying into Cape May Airport saw the man and reported the distress to airport personnel who notified the Coast Guard.
A 45-foot Response Boat – Medium (RB-M) crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene to find the man, who was wearing a life jacket, standing on his overturned vessel. After helping him right his vessel, they escorted him back to shore.
Station Cape May is a multi-mission unit that conducts search and rescue, law enforcement, marine environmental protection, and ports, waterways and coastal security missions in the Delaware Bay, Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean. Station Cape May utilizes the Coast Guard's newest small boat asset, the 45-foot RB-M, which is powered by twin diesel jet engines, and replaces the aging fleet of 41-foot Utility Boats.
