PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced an 85-year-old man Sunday from the Norwegian Gem, a 965-foot cruise ship, approximately 70 miles south of Cape Lookout, N.C.
A crewmember contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at 4:40 p.m. reporting the man had suffered a possible stroke.
Personnel from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., dispatched crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to assist.
The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene at approximately 6:30 p.m., hoisted the man and his son into the helicopter and took them to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C.
