POINT JUDITH, R.I. — Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England, in conjunction with ferry industry representatives, and federal, state and local agencies, is scheduled to conduct an annual maritime security exercise in Point Judith, R.I. on Wednesday.

This exercise builds upon the effective and cooperative partnerships that have been forged between federal, state and local representatives, which enhance maritime safety and security in the Rhode Island region. This exercise also fulfills the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA), the comprehensive maritime security law enacted by the Congress after September 11, 2001.
Developed through a multi-agency planning process, the exercise will simulate an incident involving a large, passenger carrying, ferry vessel that would require the rescue and evacuation of passengers and crew members to shore. Local first responders will set up triage areas and process exercise “victims.” An inter-agency command post will be established at Fort Nathaniel Greene Army Reserve Facility on Point Judith Road from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles from various participating entities will be used in and around the Port of Galilee.
