PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 32-year-old man Saturday from a 34-foot fishing vessel approximately 10 miles east of Cape Lookout, N.C.

Crewmembers aboard the fishing vessel contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders via VHF-FM channel 16 at approximately 2:15 p.m. reporting a crewmember suffered a seizure.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon, N.C., to assist.

The Coast Guard crew arrived on scene, transferred the man from the fishing vessel to the Coast Guard boat and took him to Station Fort Macon, where he was met by awaiting emergency medical services personnel and later taken to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, N.C.

“My crew did an outstanding job,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Miles Dover, the coxswain aboard the MLB from Station Fort Macon. “Petty Officer Ryan Summerlin’s prior emergency medical services experience assisted him in treating the patient during the transit.”
