PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued two people Saturday aboard a 22-foot sailboat taking on water in the Pamlico Sound near Ocracoke, N.C.
The crew of the Sea-Ya, a 22-foot sailboat, contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at 1:10 p.m. requesting assistance due to their boat taking on water.
Sector North Carolina watchstanders dispatched crews aboard a 25-foot Response Boat - Small from Coast Guard Station Ocracoke and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet.
A good Samaritan arrived on scene and transferred one of the two crewmembers from the Sea-Ya onto their boat.
The RB-S crew arrived on scene and transferred a crewmember to the Sea-Ya to assist in dewatering. Once the MLB crew arrived on scene, they placed the Sea-Ya in tow en route to Ocracoke.
The remaining Sea-Ya crewmember and Coast Guard crewmember were transferred to the RBS. The RBS took the crewmember to Ocracoke.
There are no reports of injuries and TowBoat U.S. is scheduled to salvage the boat in Ocracoke.
