CHARLESTON, S.C. — Two men were rescued by the Coast Guard Sunday evening in vicinity of Tybee Creek, Ga.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Charleston received a call at 9 p.m. from the father of one of the missing men reporting that his son and a friend had gone to salvage another boat and hadn’t returned.
The Coast Guard launched crews aboard an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Air Station Savannah and a 25-foot Response Boat – Small from Station Tybee.
The small boatcrew heard one of the men calling for help from Little Tybee Island, Ga. The water was too shallow for the Coast Guard boat to rescue the man, the boat crew was able to vector the helicopter crew to the area. The aircrew found the second man in the water near Tybee Island and hoisted both men to safety at approximately 11:15 p.m.
No medical concerns or injuries were reported.
