Coast Guardsman found guilty of assault in Key West

MIAMI — A Coast Guardsman on trial for abusive sexual contact, assault consummated by battery, and drunk and disorderly conduct was sentenced to 30 days restriction and 30 days hard labor without confinement after a special court-martial, Friday.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael G. Gold, 40, was found guilty of assault consummated by battery in violation of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice Article 128 and drunk and disorderly conduct in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice Article 134. Gold was acquitted of the charge for abusive sexual contact.

Gold was assigned to Coast Guard Station Key West, Florida, at the time the offense occurred.

Capt. Alwyn Young, commander of Coast Guard Sector Key West, was the convening  authority for the court martial.
