CHEBOYGAN, Mich. — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw hosted military members and employers enrolled in the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve during a familiarization cruise under the Mackinac Bridge and surrounding areas Monday.

Nearly 50 ESGR employers boarded cutter Mackinaw in St. Ignace, Mich., and experienced a two-hour cruise under the bridge and through Round Island Pass before returning to St. Ignace, in order to enhance their understanding of Coast Guard missions and capabilities.

“The crew and I were honored to host these distinguished guests onboard," said Cmdr. Michael Davanzo, commanding officer of Mackinaw.  "We appreciate everything they do for all the armed services — not just the Coast Guard."

The ESGR is a Department of Defense agency that promotes cooperation and understanding between reserve component servicemembers and their civilian employers and assists in the resolution of conflicts that may arise due to an employee's military commitments.
