Media Advisory: U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Mounted Police to sign regional Shiprider SOP

SEATTLE — The U.S. Coast Guard Thirteenth District and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police “E” Division will sign a finalized standard operating procedure for the Pacific region Integrated Cross-border Maritime Law Enforcement program, known as Shiprider, during a signing ceremony at the Peace Arch Provincial Park pavilion, Monday.

Shiprider is a joint operation involving specially trained U.S. and Canadian law enforcement officials. The program allows officials from both countries to transit back and forth across the border to pursue or interdict suspected criminals operating in shared waterways.

WHO: Rear Adm. Keith A. Taylor, Commander of the 13th Coast Guard District and Deputy Commissioner Craig Callens, Commanding Officer of the RCMP “E” Division

WHAT: Shiprider Regional SOP signing between the 13th Coast Guard District and the RCMP “E” Division

WHEN: Monday, June 17, 1 p.m.

WHERE: Peace Arch Provincial Park pavilion (Canadian side), Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

No passport is required within the confines of the park.

Canadian personnel parking is located next to the Canada Customs and Immigration building (Take Exit 1 from Highway 99 southbound, then first left off of Beach Ave.).  U.S. personnel parking is located next to the U.S. Border Patrol – Peace Arch Crossing (Take Exit 276 from I-5 N. Continue straight at the traffic circle on to 2nd Ave. Located three blocks on the left).

Media interested in attending the ceremony should RSVP by Monday at 8 a.m., and arrive at the Peace Arch Provincial Park prior to 12 p.m. on Monday.  To RSVP, contact 13th Coast Guard District Public Affairs Office at (206) 220-7237.
