PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard medevaced a 50-year-old man Saturday after he was experiencing symptoms of decompression sickness while diving off a research boat 23 miles off the coast of Cape May, New Jersey.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia received the report at approximately 4:45 p.m. from a person aboard the boat.
A 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene and transferred the man aboard their boat. The man was transported back to the station and transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.
The man is reported to be responsive and is being taken to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for further medical evaluation.
